P.O.S. – Never Better (2009) Will Unique Album Art Make Sales?
This entry was posted on Monday, January 26th, 2009 at 7:04 pmIn the days of MP3′s and people stealing more music than buying it, there comes a need to create a strategy to provoke fans to BUY the album, not steal it online. Some people try to add bonus tracks for download in the CD casing, some offer discount cards, some send free stickers and posters to hopefully get the fan excited enough to buy the album.
Enter: P.O.S.
Influenced just as much by Mos Def as he is punk bands like Minor Threat, he fuses his styles seamlessly to produce a unique sound that may put a smile on your face, or may make you want to punch yourself in the face. In order to keep up with the downloaders he released a new album with unique artwork. There are solid slides and 6 transparent slides in the booklet so the fan can rearrange the booklet and create unique artwork for themselves. Pretty cool. Here is a video of the booklet being rearranged.
And here is a link to his first single “Goodbye”
Do you think the artwork will boost sales?

You know, I want to write something like this. This is awesome. Would you like to give review about my site? Well, I need some opinion from blogger like you.

February 2nd, 2009 at 10:24 amDefinitely unique, but I don’t see it helping sales any. I honestly don’t see the point of it, but props to him for being innovative.
February 3rd, 2009 at 7:36 ami like the idea but don’t think it will deter people who would of downloaded an album anyways
February 3rd, 2009 at 1:33 pmi bought two copies, one for me and one for a friend.
and i downloaded the instrumental and deluxe versions from iTunes.
they totally got me.
February 6th, 2009 at 3:46 amI bought a copy too, its great stuff. I would recommend it!
February 6th, 2009 at 3:56 pmHaha ya I bought the deluxe one on itunes as well… the weird thing about it is how many spelling errors there are on the lyrics if you actually read it
February 8th, 2009 at 3:23 pmYea great idea, i think it will increase the way people see albums and music industry at all these days and even selling.
February 11th, 2009 at 12:24 amDefinitely exclusive…
February 16th, 2009 at 4:25 amThat’s pretty cool. Definitely a good way to get people to buy the album. Also, I think companies should produce albums that contain like 15 songs, but they are all connected by a beat or riff that makes them seem like 1. Just found your site through Google, and wanted to say that I now in love with your blog. I just subscribed and can’t wait until your next post!
February 16th, 2009 at 7:20 amNice Post. Thanks for sharing and keep posting more new albums and music info.
Thanks again.
February 22nd, 2009 at 8:57 pmI bought one copy, it has great stuff.
thanks mate.
February 26th, 2009 at 7:30 amI agree. Artists should have some sort of strategy so people would buy the real thing. It is hard not to just download stuff off of the internet. So by having a strategy, people will refrain from doing that and buy the cds.
February 27th, 2009 at 7:15 amIt’s an interesting idea, for sure, but I don’t know that it will help sales all that much. Nothing’s stopping people from downloading the contents of the CD and making their own album art now, is it?
February 28th, 2009 at 9:32 pmYes, some are buying but only fan club for collection, but not boot up too much of sell, i think most 95% always try to download music for free !
March 15th, 2009 at 10:08 pmI don’t know if it’s going to boost sales for the common music fan, but the die hard would love it. Although with the way the music industry is going in terms of sales anything is worth a try…it’s just that a “custom art” album isn’t really going to draw me in.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:15 amYup, they will really help increase your sells/ But like the poster above for normal music listeners it is not effective but it will really good for music lovers.
April 18th, 2009 at 1:44 amI love it

April 21st, 2009 at 8:17 amI think its ok, but you would never really get to use it, just a gimmick cos everyone has mp3′s now, right?

April 21st, 2009 at 11:31 amcool artworks… this is some kind of gimmick that many art persons would love. (www.kika.ca)
April 21st, 2009 at 3:25 pmits great stuff. I would recommend it!
Thanks
April 25th, 2009 at 12:00 amCool. Nicely done vid as well. It is a great way of having people buy the cd but most people download it still.
May 5th, 2009 at 4:32 pmSo creative.
May 27th, 2009 at 1:56 amArtists and companies shouldn’t even try to sell the actual albums anymore. They should focus on merchandising. Marvel Comics, for example, hardly makes any money off of actual comics anymore. Sure there’s still people who buy the comics, but the real money comes from movies, action figures, Pez dispensers, ect.
Musicians need to get in on that kind of action more.
May 27th, 2009 at 10:58 amSo by having a strategy, people will refrain from doing that and buy the cds.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:19 pmTogether with people who download music for free, there are still fans and lovers of specific bands who feel so happy to buy a quality album and enjoy beautiful music. As for me, I am not a fan of any band but it gives me great feelings to add one more album to my music collection.
June 26th, 2009 at 4:11 amI love this blog.

In the days of MP3’s and people stealing more music than buying it
September 13th, 2009 at 1:29 amI think new media should be embraced and adapted to suit the times. Art like this is a great incentive for buying music the old fashion way though.

interesting concept, i wonder if it will really increase sales tho, hopefully it does
November 4th, 2009 at 8:32 pmI think there are a couple of important points here: There is a certain percentage of the population that are OK with stealing music / dvd’s, providing it doesn’t involve shop-lifting. These people will continue to steal, even if the prices are dropped really low. The rest of the population will only buy when they think the price is right. Of that section, some will steal if it’s too expensive, and the rest will do without. Everyone else will pay whatever it costs, because they think stealing is wrong. Will album art help? I’m not sure. Personally, I don’t think it will make any real difference. The best bet is to make stealing really un-cool… it’s working with smoking. I suggest getting the “stars” to make stealing un-cool (like they do with drugs). After all, it’s in their own interests if people don’t steal their music!!
November 9th, 2009 at 2:14 amPerhaps a slight increase in sales will be seen due to the unique art, however, it will not keep people from downloading albums illegally – because in the end people are interested in the music.
November 13th, 2009 at 7:08 amPretty neat. But I think gone were the days of DVDs and CD albums. It takes too much space. Besides you don’t wanna use it for fear of breaking or scratching the disc. So you might as well rip it. Plus how many songs do you really like in the album? 2 or 4 maybe? I’m no Apple fanboy but the iTunes concept of just buying what track you want really revolutionized it. Instead of spending that much for an entire album. You can buy 4 hit songs you really like of different artists. That’s bettter IMO.
November 23rd, 2009 at 10:28 amgreat idea, Thanks for sharing!
November 29th, 2009 at 12:19 ami wonder if it will really increase sales or not, wish it does

January 1st, 2010 at 7:28 amI will pay the extra money for unique album artwork!
January 19th, 2010 at 10:11 amThe idea is interesting, but will not last long. Because there is no perfect defense. While marking labels influenced the course of events (in percentage).
February 4th, 2010 at 11:25 amMy home is really dirty these days. With the lots of cleaning companies around I wish to use their services first. Because I need professionals to clean my house. And I believe they are capable of doing what they are promising.
